Becoming a mum leaves little or no time to beautify yourself as you used to. Nowadays it’s a case of finding a few extra minutes to fit it into the day, rather than spend hours getting ready. Oh those happy days!
OllyOlly (London’s answer to Time Out for baby and toddlers) asked us how mammas can stay looking good in as little time as possible.
Super speedy make up
When you don’t have time to do the full face of make-up, just using a few staple products can make a huge difference. BB cream is a great alternative to foundation; giving medium coverage which can be built up, and making tired skin feel fresh.
It’s easy and super speedy to apply. Kiehls Actively Correcting & Beautifying BB Cream is a great option and also acts as your daily SPF 50. Add some bronzer and a bit of lip gloss, you’re ready to go.
It’s the eyes that have it
Curling my eyelashes is an absolute must. It only takes a few seconds and is totally worth it. This and a quick few layers of Benefit BADgal lash mascara do the world of good for opening up tired eyes. No one will ever know how many times you were up last night.
Hand and nail love
If you’re anything like me, you’re constantly washing and anti-bac’ing your hands, making them really dry. To remind myself to moisturise as often as possible, I keep hand cream next to each sink in the house, plus a mini one in the nappy bag. Favourites are Cowshed Cow Pat Hand Cream for the house and L’Occitane Shea Butter Hand Cream in travel size.
Dry shampoo is your friend
Gone are the days of being able to wash and blow-dry your hair each day, so for the days between washes Batiste dry shampoo is my absolute lifesaver. This and a low maintenance cut are a godsend.
Use the blow dry to your advantage
When I do have time to blow dry my hair, I try to schedule this to coincide with the little ones nap time. Pop them on the bed while you dry your hair and the noise sends them off into a really deep sleep. Easy!
Tidy eyebrows open up the eyes and frame the face, so eyebrow threading is must for me. Granted, I can’t fit it in as often as I used to, but even occasionally keeps the brows in line. Blink Brow Bars are brilliant as they’re easy to find in department stores, they’re super fast and you can just rock up – no appointment needed. Next time you’re out shopping with your partner / mum / friend, ask them to baby watch for 15mins while you nip there for a quick fix.
Multitasking bath oils
It’s worth trying to get a bath in at the end of the day once baby’s in bed if you can. This helps you to relax, take the weight off your feet and sleep better. In it, use an oil which works to moisturise the skin and as a hair and nail treatment. This covers all the bases, perfect when you don’t have time to do a full body moisturise after each shower. Elemis Frangipani Monoi Body Oil (which smells amazing) and Aveda Beautifying Composition are both hair, nail and body oils perfect for a soak.
